Teaching children how to stay safe
Havant Borough Council’s Junior Citizen is back from Monday 13 to Friday 24 November.
The two week-long event, which will be attended by more than 1,000 school children from local primary schools, is organised by Havant Borough Council and aims to teach children aged ten and eleven years key life skills and the importance of being good citizens. Some of the skills taught at the event include: what actions to take in an emergency, keeping safe and respecting the local area. Students will be encouraged to sign a pledge to do everything they can to make their area a better place.
Five interactive workshops presenting different scenarios in the form of presentations, films, sports activities and discussions will bring the topics alive for the children throughout the week.
Children from 24 schools across the borough will be attending the event to learn from a variety of organisations including Hampshire Police, Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service, Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), Southern Domestic Abuse Service (SDAS) and Havant Borough Council.
Councillor Michael Wilson, Cabinet lead for Environment and Neighbourhood Services said “Junior Citizen is a great initiative, run by Havant Borough Council. The event is a valuable way of making our children aware of dangers they might come across, in a way they can understand.”
